Study 1: Creation and Fall

John 1:3-4 God is the creator of all life.
Colossians 1:17 God holds all life in place.
Colossians 1:22 God has worked to reconcile his broken relationship with man.

Rationale: Focusing on Colossians 1 and John 1, this study will look at God our Creator, who is the source of all life. Mankind has a broken relationship with God, but He has responded in grace to all mankind and opened the way to salvation.

Introduction: Read Colossians 1:15-23 and John 1:1-18 together.

a) God Our Creator: Colossians 1:16-17; John 1:3-4

b) Nature of Man: Colossians 1:17; John 1:4-5, 16

Study 2: Sinfulness and Righteousness

Romans 3:23 All have sinned.
Romans 8:6 It’s our attitude to our sin that matters the most.
Romans 12:1-2 Due to God’s mercy, we can be transformed by the renewing of our minds.

Rationale: This study will detail how the fallen state of man manifests itself through sin (Romans 1:16-20), which incites God’s wrath and taints our walk with Him. We are all in need of a Saviour.

a) The Sinful Nature: Romans 1:16-20

b) The Sinful and Spiritual Mind: Romans 8:5-14

c) The Path to Righteousness: Romans 12:1-2

Study 3: The Word of God

2 Timothy 3:16-17 The Bible is the out-breathing of God. It originated in the heart and mind of God and is sufficient to lead us to salvation.
2 Peter 1:20-21 Men wrote the Bible in accordance with the Spirit’s guidance.
Acts 17:11 People of noble character examine the Scriptures regularly, applying it to their lives and bringing their ideas into the church.

Rationale: This study will establish that the Bible is inspired (2 Peter 1:20-21), revealed (1 Corinthians 2:12-14) and sufficient (2 Timothy 3:17). The Word of God is the authority for our lives today.

a) Inspiration: 2 Peter 1:20-21

b) Revelation: 1 Corinthians 2:12-14

c) Sufficiency: 2 Timothy 3:16-17

d) Application: Acts 17:11
